Protect Our Probationary Employees Act

Introduced·3/10/25

Allows federal employees involuntarily separated during a probationary period to resume that period upon reinstatement.

The Protect Our Probationary Employees Act allows federal employees who are involuntarily separated from government service while serving a probationary or trial period to resume that period upon reinstatement. This applies to those separated between January 20, 2025, and a specified date. The act defines terms such as "covered probationary employee" and "previous Federal position." The probationary period resumption is calculated based on the difference between the original probationary period and the time already served. The act terminates on January 20, 2029.
