DEFENSE Act authorizes deputizing state and local law enforcement to protect events with flight restrictions using authorized drone countermeasures.
The DEFENSE Act, or Disabling Enemy Flight Entry and Neutralizing Suspect Equipment Act, amends the Homeland Security Act of 2002 to allow the Secretary of Homeland Security or the Attorney General to deputize state and local law enforcement officers for protecting sites with flight restrictions and large public gatherings. These officers can only exercise this authority if they have completed specified training. The Secretary or the Attorney General, in coordination with the Secretary of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration, must oversee the use of this authority.
