Audit the Pentagon Act mandates financial audits for the Pentagon and imposes penalties for non-compliance.
The Audit the Pentagon Act requires the Pentagon to undergo financial audits. If any department, agency, or element within the Department of Defense fails to achieve an unqualified opinion on its financial statements for a fiscal year, the amount available for that fiscal year is reduced by 2.0 percent. Additionally, any funds deemed unavailable due to non-compliance are deposited into the general fund of the Treasury for deficit reduction. This applies to fiscal years beginning after 2024.
