Establishes the Mental Health Licensure Portability Program to incentivize counselors in states with interstate compacts.
The CARE for Mental Health Professionals Act establishes the Mental Health Licensure Portability Program. This program awards grants to eligible entities to incentivize counselors to practice in states that have entered into interstate compacts. These compacts are occupational licensure agreements based on mutual recognition of professional qualifications. The goal is to expand the workforce of credentialed mental health professionals. The program is authorized for appropriations of $4,000,000 annually for fiscal years 2027 through 2030.
