Future Logging Careers Act exempts 16- and 17-year-olds from child labor laws for logging operations.
The Future Logging Careers Act amends the Fair Labor Standards Act to exempt 16- and 17-year-olds from child labor laws when employed in logging operations. This exemption applies to mechanized operations, including the use of various types of equipment, but excludes manual chainsaw use and cable skidder operations. Certain hazardous occupations may still be restricted by the Secretary of Labor, except when the minor is employed by a parent or guardian in a family-owned logging operation.
