The Illegal Immigration Cost Recovery Act doubles civil penalties for unauthorized entry, failure to depart, and hiring unauthorized aliens. Starting October 1, 2027, penalties will adjust annually for inflation using the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers. The Secretary of Homeland Security must publish these adjusted amounts in the Federal Register by December 15 each year, applying to penalties assessed from January 1 of the following year.
