The Alternatives to Prevent Addiction In the Nation Act amends title XVIII of the Social Security Act to ensure appropriate access to non-opioid pain management drugs under part D of the Medicare program. It prohibits Medicare Part D plans from imposing step therapy or prior authorization requirements for qualifying non-opioid pain management drugs. It also ensures that these drugs are placed on the lowest cost-sharing tier, if any, and that the deductible does not apply. The changes take effect for plan years beginning on or after January 1, 2026.
