AI Guardrails Act of 2026 limits Department of Defense use of artificial intelligence in autonomous weapon systems.

The AI Guardrails Act of 2026 establishes limitations on the use of artificial intelligence by the Department of Defense. It prohibits the use of AI for launching or detonating nuclear weapons, monitoring, tracking, profiling, or targeting individuals or groups in the United States without a legal basis, and employing lethal force by autonomous weapon systems without appropriate human judgment and supervision. The Act also mandates that AI use in autonomous weapon systems must align with Department of Defense Directive 3000.09.
