Establishes a congressional commission to enhance civics education in the U.S.
The American Civics Renewal Act establishes a congressional commission to identify ways the federal government can strengthen civics education. The Commission on American Civics Renewal will review current civics education, evaluate federal programs, and recommend improvements. It will also develop a proposed civics curriculum and a national strategy for implementing the curriculum. The Secretary of Education must inform state educational agencies of the curriculum and strategy and provide access to them. The Commission will submit its findings to relevant committees and federal officials.
