The Healthy Families Act mandates that employers provide employees with earned paid sick time. Employees earn one hour of paid sick time for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 56 hours per year. Employers may require certification for absences exceeding three consecutive workdays, but must allow employees to use sick time before earning it. Employers must post notices about paid sick time and cannot retaliate against employees for using it. The act also includes provisions for confidentiality, non-discrimination, and enforcement mechanisms.
