Automatic U.S. citizenship for certain internationally adopted individuals.
The Protect Adoptees and American Families Act (PAAF Act) provides for the automatic acquisition of U.S. citizenship for certain internationally adopted individuals. It applies to those adopted by a U.S. citizen parent before reaching 18 years of age, who were in lawful U.S. custody before turning 18, and who were residing in the U.S. on the enactment date of the act. The act exempts these individuals from grounds of inadmissibility and requires a criminal background check for visa issuance.
