Ms. Tenney (for herself, Mr. Smith of New Jersey, and Mr. Langworthy) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the Committee on Natural Resources
RESOLUTION
Expressing support for the preservation, protection, and maintenance of statues and monuments honoring Christopher Columbus as an enduring testament to the Nation’s history, heritage, and identity.
- (1) supports the preservation and protection of historical statues and monuments honoring Christopher Columbus for present and future generations;
- (2) condemns efforts in Syracuse, New York, to remove the Columbus Monument, a structure funded by Italian immigrant families and dedicated in 1934; and
- (3) reaffirms its commitment to preserving American history, including the legacy of Christopher Columbus, during the celebrations of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States of America.
