Establishes the Local Foods for Healthy Schools Program to fund local food purchases for schools.
Amends the Agricultural Marketing Act of 1946 to establish the Local Foods for Healthy Schools Program. The Secretary of Agriculture will enter into cooperative agreements with eligible units of government to purchase local foods from covered producers and distribute them to school food authorities. Funds will be used to purchase local foods and for training, technical assistance, food safety certification, oversight, and administration. The Secretary will develop an allocation formula for distributing funds, with a limit of 30% for state-based allocation.
