The Data Infrastructure Energy Measurement and Standards Act tasks the Director of the National Institute of Standards and Technology with creating a research program to develop best practices, definitions, methodologies, and technical standards for measuring energy and water use by data centers. The program will also study data availability to improve energy demand forecasting capabilities. The Director will engage with industry, academia, and other stakeholders to develop standardized metrics and data sharing mechanisms.
