H.R.8872

Preventing Waste, Fraud, and Abuse in TANF Act

Introduced·5/19/26

Preventing Waste, Fraud, and Abuse in TANF Act targets funds to low-income families and strengthens program integrity.

The Preventing Waste, Fraud, and Abuse in TANF Act amends part A of title IV of the Social Security Act to target funds to low-income families, strengthen program integrity, and establish goals for eliminating fraud and improper payments under the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program. The bill mandates that states use TANF funds only to assist families with incomes below twice the poverty guidelines. It prohibits states from reserving more than 15% of funds for future use and requires states to obligate and expend funds within specific timeframes.
