The Federal Employee Short-Term Disability Insurance Act of 2026 establishes a voluntary insurance program for federal employees to cover short-term disabilities not related to work. The Office of Personnel Management will administer the program, contracting with insurance carriers to offer coverage. Benefits will offset other compensation for the same conditions, and premiums will be paid by the employees. The program excludes coverage for injuries or disabilities caused by willful misconduct, intent to harm, or intoxication.
