H.R.8598

North Pacific Fishery Management Council Representation Enhancement Act of 2026

Introduced·4/30/26

Enhances representation on the North Pacific Fishery Management Council by mandating minimum appointments for recreational, non-industrial.

The North Pacific Fishery Management Council Representation Enhancement Act of 2026 amends the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act to ensure balanced representation on the North Pacific Fishery Management Council. The council, which manages fisheries in the Arctic Ocean, Bering Sea, Aleutian Islands, and Gulf of Alaska, will now require at least one representative from non-industrial commercial fishing interests, recreational fishing interests, rural subsistence user groups, and urban subsistence user groups.
