The PRIMATE Act prohibits the importation of nonhuman primates into the United States.
The PRIMATE Act amends the Tariff Act of 1930 to prohibit the importation of nonhuman primates into the United States, except for those imported for placement with an AZA-accredited facility and certified not to be used in experiments or breeding for such purposes. Violators face civil penalties of up to $50,000 per violation, in addition to any other penalties. U.S. Customs and Border Protection will deny clearance for any shipments containing nonhuman primates that violate this prohibition.
