The Geo POWER Act aims to advance next-generation geothermal electricity generation demonstration projects in new regions. It establishes the Milestone-Based Geothermal Demonstration Program to award innovative financing to geothermal projects in low-permeability and impermeable reservoirs. The program prioritizes projects in regions with limited or no geothermal electricity generation, including near Indian land. The Secretary of Energy must award financing to at least three different proposals in three different states and to at least three different project sponsors.
