The Pets Belong with Families Act amends the United States Housing Act of 1937 to modify the reasonable requirements that may be imposed on pet owners living in public housing. It prohibits any prohibition based on the breed, size, or weight of an animal. It allows for a pet deposit not exceeding 10 percent of the tenant’s monthly base rent, amortized over at least three months. It also prohibits withholding a pet deposit for damage unrelated to the pet, including ordinary wear and tear, and mandates reimbursement of any unused deposit within 30 days of vacating.
