Clean Slate through Repayment Act of 2026

Introduced·4/16/26

Clean Slate through Repayment Act of 2026 removes defaulted student loan records from credit history upon full repayment.

The Clean Slate through Repayment Act of 2026 amends the Higher Education Act of 1965 to allow the removal of a borrower's credit history record of default on a student loan made, insured, or guaranteed under title IV of the Act, once the full amount due on the loan has been repaid. This applies to any consumer reporting agency that was notified of the default. The bill aims to improve the credit standing of borrowers who have successfully settled their student loan debts.
