The Buy American Seafood Act prohibits federal procurement of foreign seafood for covered food programs.

The Buy American Seafood Act prohibits federal procurement of foreign seafood for covered food programs, which include the Emergency Food Assistance Act of 1983, Department of Defense food services, and other federal food programs. The Secretary of Agriculture may grant a waiver if U.S.-produced seafood is insufficient or does not meet food safety standards. The waiver must be published in the Federal Register and reported to Congress within 30 days. The Act defines terms such as aquaculture, domestic seafood processing, and United States-produced seafood.
