Reimburses state and local first responders for costs incurred during immigration enforcement activities.
The RECOUP Act of 2026 requires the Secretary of Homeland Security to reimburse state and local first responder agencies for costs incurred when responding to requests for assistance related to immigration enforcement activities made by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement or U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The Secretary must collect information from first responders to facilitate reimbursement. If the Secretary does not collect this information, the responding agency may request reimbursement.
