Permanently schedules 2-benzylbenzimidazole opioids, known as nitazenes, as Schedule 1 controlled substances.
The STOP Nitazenes Act amends the Controlled Substances Act to permanently schedule 2-benzylbenzimidazole opioids, commonly referred to as nitazenes, as Schedule 1 controlled substances. This includes substances structurally related to 2-benzylbenzimidazole with specific modifications and those exhibiting agonist activity at the mu-opioid receptor. The Attorney General must issue rules to implement this Act, which may be issued as an interim final rule. The Act also provides for the opportunity for comment and a hearing before the final rule is issued.
