CLEAN-UP Act allows Army Secretary to remediate contaminated sediments under approved joint plans.

The CLEAN-UP Act, or Coordinated Leadership for Environmental and Aquatic Needs–Unified Planning Act, enables the Secretary of the Army to conduct authorized water development projects for contaminated sediment removal or remediation. This is done through a joint plan developed with non-Federal interests and approved by the Environmental Protection Agency Administrator. The joint plan must ensure human health and environmental protection, include relevant National Contingency Plan requirements, and identify funding sources, disposal methods, and roles and responsibilities.
