PROTECT the Grid Act aims to assess and mitigate national security risks from foreign adversary-controlled applications in high-wattage IoT devices.

The PROTECT the Grid Act mandates the Secretary of Commerce to submit a report evaluating the national security risks posed by foreign adversary-controlled applications in high-wattage IoT devices. The report must consider the extent of deployment of these devices, risks relating to foreign adversary-controlled applications, and the potential for coordinated, deliberate demand-manipulation attacks on the electric grid. The Act also codifies Executive Order 13873, which relates to securing the information and communications technology and services supply chain.
