H.R.6864

The Snowmobiles Aren’t Weapons Act prohibits using motor vehicles to hunt or harm mammalian predators on federal land.

The Snowmobiles Aren’t Weapons Act, or SAW Act, makes it illegal to use motor vehicles to harass, pursue, hunt, shoot, wound, kill, trap, capture, or collect mammalian predators on federal land. Violators face fines up to $10,000, imprisonment up to 5 years, or both. Exceptions apply if the conduct is to avoid injury or death. Federal land is defined as land owned by the United States, excluding land held in trust for American Indian Tribes or individuals. The Secretary of the Interior is tasked with investigating violations, with authority to seek assistance from federal agencies.
