The Bus Operator Safety and Security Act requires new fixed route buses, over 30 feet in length and with a useful life of 10 or more years, to have operator workstations equipped with barriers. These barriers must reach from the bus floor to the ceiling, fully enclose the workstation, prevent unwanted entry, and not impede the operator’s view. This applies unless a labor organization representing the majority of frontline workforce agrees to waive this requirement.
