Expands Medicare coverage to include genetic counseling services provided by licensed or certified genetic counselors.
The Access to Genetic Counselor Services Act of 2025 amends the Social Security Act to expand Medicare coverage under Part B to include genetic counseling services. These services must be furnished by a genetic counselor, defined as an individual licensed by a state or certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling. The bill also sets payment rates for these services at 80 percent of the lesser of the actual charge or 85 percent of the physician fee schedule amount. The amendments will take effect on January 1, 2027.
