The RESTRAIN Act prohibits the United States from conducting explosive nuclear weapon tests.

The RESTRAIN Act amends the Atomic Energy Defense Act to prohibit the United States from conducting explosive testing of nuclear weapons. It also limits the use of funds for such tests. The Act defines a subcritical nuclear test as one involving fissile materials that cannot sustain an explosive nuclear chain reaction. This Act does not restrict the authority to conduct subcritical nuclear tests.
