Hospitals As Naloxone Distribution Sites Act provides no-cost coverage for preventive opioid overdose reversal drugs.

The Hospitals As Naloxone Distribution Sites Act, or HANDS Act, amends titles XVIII and XIX of the Social Security Act and title 10, United States Code, to provide no-cost coverage for the preventive distribution of opioid overdose reversal drugs. Effective January 1, 2026, this coverage applies to Medicare, Medicaid, and TRICARE, prohibiting cost-sharing for these drugs. The bill also mandates regulatory guidance for state boards of pharmacy, nursing, and medicine to enhance safe and effective hospital-based dispensing and distribution of opioid overdose reversal drugs.
