Extends sanctions sunset, requires sanctions determination, and appoints a Special Envoy for Burma.
The BRAVE Burma Act extends the sunset of sanctions under the Burma Unified through Rigorous Military Accountability Act of 2022 from 8 to 10 years. It mandates the President to determine annually for seven years whether certain Burmese entities and foreign persons meet the criteria for sanctions. The President must submit a report to Congress on these assessments. The Act also requires the appointment of a Special Envoy for Burma, who will coordinate U.S. policy towards Burma, develop strategies for peace and democracy, and engage with various stakeholders.
