2026 Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iran

Authorizes the use of U.S. Armed Forces against Iran to counter nuclear threats and imminent threats.

This joint resolution authorizes the President to use the U.S. Armed Forces against the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran to demolish, degrade, or defeat Iran's nuclear weapons program and associated delivery systems, and to address imminent threats to U.S. forces or facilities. It prohibits the deployment of ground troops for sustained combat operations within Iran, occupying, seizing, or holding territory, or engaging in nation-building or long-term security governance. Exceptions include rescue operations for U.S.
