The PFAS Alternatives Act, also known as the Protecting Firefighters and Advancing State-of-the-Art Alternatives Act, seeks to drive innovation in developing next-generation protection for firefighters by accelerating the development of PFAS-free turnout gear. The Act authorizes the Secretary of Health and Human Services to award grants to eligible entities for research, development, and testing of next-generation turnout gear. These grants will support the creation of materials designed to produce turnout gear free of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).
