The Ensuring Lasting Smiles Act mandates that group health plans and health insurance issuers offer coverage for outpatient and inpatient items and services related to the diagnosis and treatment of congenital anomalies or birth defects. This includes reconstructive services and procedures, and items and services related to any complications arising from such services and procedures. The act also requires notice to participants and beneficiaries regarding this coverage starting January 1, 2026.
