Expands Medicare coverage to include genetic counseling services provided by licensed genetic counselors.
The Access to Genetic Counselor Services Act of 2025 amends the Social Security Act to expand Medicare coverage to include genetic counseling services. These services must be furnished by a licensed genetic counselor or a certified counselor in states without licensure. The bill defines "covered genetic counseling services" and sets payment at 80% of the lesser of the actual charge or 85% of the physician fee schedule amount. It also allows physicians and other health care providers to bill for genetic counseling services under Medicare. The changes will take effect from January 1, 2027.
