Connecticut SB00222 permits school districts to exempt high school students from the physical education credit requirement if they participate in interscholastic athletics. Students can fulfill the physical education requirement by taking an elective course instead. The act also allows students with medical conditions to be excused from the physical education requirement if a physician, physician assistant, or advanced practice registered nurse certifies that participation is medically contraindicated. This change takes effect on July 1, 2026.
