HB05434

An Act Concerning State-wide Recognition Of Minor Parties For Purposes Of Nominating Petitions.

Introduced·2/27/26

Connecticut HB05434 redefines minor parties for nominating petition purposes.

Connecticut HB05434 modifies the criteria for state-wide recognition of minor parties in nominating petitions. Effective January 1, 2027, a minor party is defined as one that did not receive at least 20% of the votes cast for all candidates for Governor in the last preceding election or does not have at least 20% of the total number of enrolled members of all political parties on the active registry list in the state. The bill also specifies that nominating petition forms will only be issued to major parties state-wide and to minor parties within their geographical jurisdiction.
