Increases the annual commission for West Virginia sheriffs collecting taxes on real and personal property.
West Virginia SB701 amends the Code of West Virginia to increase the annual commission for sheriffs collecting taxes on real and personal property. Effective July 1, 2026, sheriffs will receive a $30,000 commission after collecting 85 percent of the combined total of all taxes assessed on real and personal property. This commission is in addition to their current salary and compensation. The commission will be charged against the various funds for which the taxes are collected and will become a regular part of the budgeted and annual compensation.
