Exemption for disabled veterans from vehicle sales tax in West Virginia.

West Virginia SB594 creates an exemption from vehicle sales tax for disabled veterans. The exemption applies to one motor vehicle owned and used primarily by a veteran rated by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs as 90% disabled. The exemption begins on the date the vehicle is acquired or January 1, 2027, whichever is later, and expires on the date of the disabled veteran’s death. The Division of Motor Vehicles is responsible for collecting the tax. The bill also includes provisions for rule-making authority and an effective date.
