The West Virginia Volunteer State Guard Act creates the West Virginia Volunteer State Guard as a separate military force from the West Virginia National Guard. This force is activated by the Governor and used exclusively within the state to preserve public peace, execute state laws, enhance domestic security, and respond to terrorist threats. Members receive no pay or allowances except when called to active duty. The Adjutant General is responsible for organizing, recruiting, training, equipping, managing, and disciplining the Guard.
