The bill creates a paid parental leave pilot program for state employees in West Virginia. It allows eligible employees to receive up to 12 weeks of paid leave during a 12-month period to care for and bond with their child after birth or adoption. The leave can be taken during the first 12 months after the child’s birth or adoption. Employees are entitled to 90 percent of their average weekly wage, up to a maximum of $1,000 a week. Employers must continue group health insurance coverage for employees on leave and hold their position for the duration of the leave.
