West Virginia SB1076 allows municipalities to join the Municipal Police Officers and Firefighters Retirement System.

West Virginia SB1076 provides a special authorization for municipalities to join the Municipal Police Officers and Firefighters Retirement System. This applies to municipalities employing police or firefighters not currently participating in any state retirement system. Police officers and firefighters hired before January 1, 2027, can choose to join the retirement system. The municipality must make its election by December 1, 2026. Once a municipality joins, all new hires must be members of the plan.
