West Virginia HJR42 proposes an amendment to the state Constitution to increase the Homestead Exemption from $20,000 to $50,000 for eligible property. This amendment applies to real property or personal property in the form of a mobile home used exclusively for residential purposes. The exemption is available to citizens of West Virginia who own and occupy the property as their residence. The amendment also allows the Legislature to phase in the exemption over a period not exceeding five years. The amendment will be submitted to voters in the 2026 general election.
