Proposing an amendment to the West Virginia Constitution to increase the homestead exemption.

This bill proposes an amendment to the West Virginia Constitution to increase the homestead exemption. The amendment would change the language from "the first $20,000" to "not less than the first $20,000" of the homestead exemption. The amendment would also allow the Legislature to provide property tax relief to citizens who are tenants of residential or farm property. The amendment would be submitted to voters in the 2026 general election.
