HB5669

Prohibiting the home schooling of children in certain circumstances

Introduced·2/17/26

West Virginia HB5669 temporarily restricts home schooling during child abuse or neglect investigations.

West Virginia HB5669, known as Raylee's Law, temporarily restricts home schooling when a child is the subject of a pending child abuse or neglect investigation. The restriction applies if the alleged perpetrator is a custodial parent, guardian, or other person responsible for the child's care. The restriction prohibits the alleged perpetrator from withdrawing the child from a public, charter, or private school for home instruction or resuming responsibility for home instruction. The restriction lasts until the investigation is closed or a court orders otherwise.
