Increases the annual commission for West Virginia sheriffs collecting taxes to $30,000.
West Virginia HB5195 amends the Code of West Virginia to increase the allowable commission for tax collection by sheriffs. Beginning July 1, 2026, sheriffs will receive an annual commission of $30,000 after collecting 85 percent of all taxes on real and personal property. This increase reflects additional duties imposed on sheriffs as county treasurers. The commission will be charged against the funds for which taxes are collected and will be part of the sheriff's budgeted annual compensation.
