Allows deputy sheriffs to transfer their seniority to new positions unless they have committed wrongdoing at the previous county.

This bill amends the West Virginia Code to allow deputy sheriffs to transfer their seniority to new positions unless they have committed wrongdoing at the previous county. Promotions will be based on merit and fitness, determined by competitive examinations. The chief deputy or jailer may be removed without cause, and their time in office is added to their previous service as a deputy sheriff. The provisions apply to all persons subject to the article.
