HB5048

To ensure virtual instruction for foster students while in temporary placement facilities.

Complete·3/14/26

Ensures foster children awaiting residential placement receive virtual education.

The bill mandates that foster children awaiting residential placement continue their education through virtual learning. If the county where the child was last enrolled cannot provide virtual learning, the nearest county with such capability will be used. The individual or organization responsible for the child must receive IT training to facilitate this. Virtual instruction must begin within three days of the child entering temporary care. Once the child is placed with a foster family, educational information is shared with both the foster family and the new county.
