West Virginia HB4904 amends the Code of West Virginia to address critical vacancies in public education. It allows county superintendents, subject to county board approval, to hire prospective teachers and other professional personnel for the next school year. A "critical vacancy" is defined as a position necessary for student success, safety, and compliance with certification standards. Board staff certified in the subject area of a critical vacancy must fill the position until a permanent hire is made.
